How effectively does Shakespeare use scene 1 Essay

‘A pair of star-crossed sweethearts take their life’ this quickly tells the crowd the terrible destiny of the ‘lovers’ referenced in the primary 6lines of the preamble. Cautioning the crowd of the distress and grievousness that the play will prompt. Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ depends on the scorn between two families, the Montague’s and The Capulet’s and how their displeasure and enthusiasm towards one another lead to the demise of a cherished youngster from every family. Shakespeare utilizes Act 1, scene1 to present a large number of the primary subjects that show up all through the play, these fundamental topics are; Disorder, destiny, light and Darkness, love and enthusiasm. Utilizing this preface Shakespeare can recount to the crowd the whole story line without them in any event, watching the play. The line of the preamble starting ‘A pair of star-crossed lover†¦. ‘ tells the crowd straight away of the destiny of the two characters included. This set everything up for an inescapable closure while cautioning the crowd what's in store, this is likewise back up all through the play in light of the fact that when one beneficial thing creatures catastrophes follows intently behind. Utilizing introductions toward the start of his plays, Shakespeare had the option to catch and connect with the audience’s consideration and quieten them down before any of the principle characters are presented. The happens as a work, this would have contained the great attributes of affection verse, this would have been an extremely effective approach to present the play in light of the fact that in addition to the fact that it would have caught the audience’s consideration and quietened them down, yet Shakespeare would have utilized this preamble to give the crowd imperative data that they would have expected to comprehend the remainder of the play. Shakespeare would have likewise had the option to give the crowd some thought of what's in store all through the remainder of the play. This was viable as it utilized tight musicality and rhyme intended to attract the crowd. The preface toward the start of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ creatures ‘ Two House-holds, both the same in nobility, in reasonable Verona (where we lay our scene)’ and proceeds â€Å"Whose misadventured forlorn ousts, Do with their demise cover their folks strife†¦ † so in these two short lines Shakespeare has told his crowd who the characters will be and where the play is set. ‘Romeo and Juliet’ is set in Verona, Italy. Shakespeare picked this area on the grounds that in the sixteenth century, Italy was viewed as a wonderful nation, known for it riches and sentiment, utilizing these pictures and scene he had made in his mind Shakespeare figured Verona would be the ideal spot for ‘extravagant lovers’ Verona was one of the 4 most significant states in Italy. Every one of these states has its own ruler; these rulers would have been serious, attempting to pick up predominance over others. Shakespeare utilized this key subject in the play ‘Romeo and Juliet’ as the Prince. The ‘Prince’ would have governed the state and administered all exercises that happen, this would incorporate quarreling and fighting between any families that live in the state. Shakespeare got this in his adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ making the Prince the ruler and the Montague’s and the Capulet’s the two quarreling families. Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’ was not a bit of William Shakespeare’s direct work; he had based all the thoughts and storylines on a book he had perused by Arthur Brooke, entitled ‘ The Tragic History and Romeus and Juliet’ written in 1562. The History of this specific story returns considerably further, to a Greek creator names Xenophon. While re-composing this specific storyline Shakespeare concluded he was composing the play for various motivations to the ones Brook had utilized. Arthur Brook composed the sonnet to ‘warn youngsters of the threats of physical attraction’ Shakespeare composed his rendition since he was ‘more keen on considering the legitimacy of genuine love’. Despite the fact that Shakespeare had ‘copied’ the story from two others he had transformed it and added pieces to make it his own. For instance, Marcutio, Benvolio and the attendant were not highlighted in Xenophon adaptation or Arthur Brook’s variant. Shakespeare needed to do this since his crowd would have known the first storyline and may have thought of Shakespeare as a phony, audience’s in this timespan would not have ‘held back’ in the event that they didn't care for the play they were being demonstrated they would leave and cause ruin in the theater. In addition to the fact that Shakespeare added characters, he added little pieces of scenes to give the play a greater amount of an effect and strengthen the storyline. For instance he included; a road battle, residential scenes of nourishment planning, an occurrence with the performers, Tybalt’s challenge to Romeo and the slaughtering of Paris in Act5 scene 3. Act 1, Scene 1 opens with Capulet hirelings, Sampson and Gregory talking forcefully and savagely in a bustling commercial center trying too hard to find something, â€Å"†¦ and along these lines ladies being the more fragile vessels are ever pushed to the divider, in this manner I will push Montague’s men from the divider, and push his house cleaners to the wall†. The two workers them talk about the scorn and sharpness between to two families while examining vicious and rough pictures. This segment additionally speaks to the high-lightered issue of brutality, which happens in various segments of the play. Not exclusively is this area unrefined and indecent, it shows how vicious these men possibly towards ladies and man. It’s not well before a hireling from the Montague family enters the scene, a contention flashes and the two ‘sides’ are before long yelling at one another. This shows the crowd of the dependability that the workers have towards their family units. At the point when the contention/battle proceed with the crowd are indicated that everybody is happy to risk their life for their family name. This is likewise watched later on in the play when Romeo and Juliet acknowledge just because they are from 2 extraordinary, contending families. This contention readies the crowd for different squabbles and fights further on in the play. â€Å"What, drawn and talk harmony? I abhor the word, As I despise heck, all Montague’s, and thee. Have at thee, coward† this specific discourse spoken by Tybalt mirrors the forcefulness of his character as well as tell the crowd of the detest and sharpness between the two families. In a matter of seconds following these occasions Benvolio enters, † Part, fools! Set up you blades, you know not what you do† this shows the crowd the peacekeeper in the play, the man that endeavors to isolate the two families and stop the fermenting battle/contention. At the point when this doesn't work Lord and Lady Capulet enter, trailed by Lord and Lady Montague. Both the Capulet and Montague Lords need to participate in the battle yet are halted by their spouses, who reveal to them that they are excessively old. As the spouses keep the pair down the Prince enters with his ‘men’. The Prince is viewed as the figure of expert in the play; the individual who controls all issues and is viewed as somebody who is fit for sifting through any fighting and contentions. He utilizes this ‘power’ in a long discourse where he talks of past fights between the Montague’s and the Capulet’s and how it can't proceed. He does this to tell his crowd that these ‘arguments’ are not a coincidental thing and happen routinely upsetting the individuals of Verona. The two families perceive the figure of power and part, this shows the crowd that the Prince is better than every single other character. The Prince proceeds, † If ever you upset our roads again, your lives will pay the relinquish of the peace† this is the main time that the Prince is viewed as an undermining figure in the play, notice all individuals from the Capulet and the Montague family unit that if at any time a battle breaks out again somebody will follow through on the cost with their life. The Princes language in this area is firm and yet, Shakespeare ensures his crowd wont see him as a danger to any of different characters in spite of the fact that he is. The Prince talks in clear refrain, to show he is predominant and ground-breaking and underlines his insight. All the characters comprehend the Princes discourse, yet Romeo goes on the disrupt the norm and is later ousted from Verona despite the fact that Romeo himself is absent when the battling breaks out. This isolates him from the remainder of the characters causing him to appear to be separated from the families fighting and ready to continue with his existence without beginning difficulty each time he sees an individual from the Capulet family unit. The scene proceeds, the Montague’s leave with the Prince and the Capulet’s are told to come back to their homes, Montague, Lady Montague and Benvolio are left in the commercial center, here a discussion happens about Romeo and how he appears to be pulled back from all goings on. Benvolio is asked to examine into for what valid reason Romeo is carrying on like this and the remainder of the Montague’s leave. This is the first run through the crowd are acquainted with Romeo when he starts his discussion with Benvolio. This is the place the topics of adoration and enthusiasm are brought into the play. † With Cupid’s bolt, she hath Dian’s mind; And in solid evidence of celibacy all around outfitted, From Love’s powerless puerile bow she lives uncharmed† Romeo is talking in stanza to enlighten the crowd concerning his adoration for Rosaline however Benvolio isn't persuaded that Romeo is entirely love, Romeo gripes on the grounds that the lady he professes to love won't wed nor love him back. Benvolio discloses to Romeo that other ladies will go along and he should make a decent attempt to disregard her, Romeo tunes in to this albeit truly

The training of personnel in pharmaceutical management would be based on the four major objectives: -Increasing and developing knowledge about the special contemplation in association to the pharmaceutical systems. -The attitude about the magnitude of the pharmaceutical management needs improvement which in turn will improve the environment for a change. -Building and strengthening of skills required in tasks to be completed for competent execution of the pharmaceutical system. -Improving the work behavior so as to make people function in a better way at activities which are assigned to them, thus fulfilling their potential. All these objectives would be directed towards increasing the quality of the pharmaceutical services and products. Determining the Learning Program: A training program consists of activities which are scheduled with the learning objectives, goals of the training, methods of assessment and places. A good training program is always designed and focused on the performance problems like having long delays in getting medicines from the suppliers. Training needs estimation and a pertaining acquaintance and assessment of skills in helping plan an efficient training program (Pervaiz et al. 2016). Management training in Pharmaceutical can only be successful if all the areas related to the supply system of pharmaceutical industry are assessed in a proper manner. An assessment in knowledge is based on inspection of a worker performing the regular duties. Both the strengths and weaknesses are being taken into consideration. There can be interviews with different supervisors, administrators and workers assisting in determining the areas where there exists the performance problems and the skills required to be taught and developed. The training cannot go forever; it should be valued after a period of time for knowing how much the employees are able to learn from the training. A period of 15 days should be estimated for the training process and that too within the stipulated budget as thought of for this training process within 10,000 AUS$. Learning Methods: Certain learning experiences can be put into use in training inclusive of Brainstorming, Discussion, Demonstration, Role Playing and Distance Learning. Brainstorming: Members comprising of the large or small group are confident in contributing any sort of suggestions that they can think of on a given subject. Discussion: In this method participants indulge in discussing with one another with proper guidance from facilitator. Demonstration: The facilitators direct the learners on how and what should be done explaining matters like where and when an action is to be taken. Distance Learning: A system which is designed in building knowledge and expertise of learners of receiving training who cannot be physically present on site. Role Playing: A given situation is provided where participants act out the roles. Evaluating the result of training: Evaluation and monitoring in assessing the presentation and development of the contributors is one of the major roles of the trainer. All the training outcomes should be quantifiable, based on performance which is aimed at the objectives of the training program. There should be a proper time frame for completion of the activities related in the training of the employees. Curriculum mapping is one of the measures in evaluating the links between the content of the courses and the outcomes. While performing training, formative assessment is vital in aiming the itinerary towards improvement of performance (Mehralian et al. 2013). It is the duty of the trainer in helping people learn in a quick manner. Feedbacks can be used from all these evaluations in adjusting the content and measures of training to meet the needs of the accomplices. Employees can go for self-evaluation where they need to answer certain questions, the answers of which will directly help them in knowing where they stand and how they are performing in the current scenario. The records and results of this training process should be kept for future references in knowing who still lacks in what areas and where they need improvements. Employee having customer service problem In many organizations customer service is an important feature which is often the most challenging part and also the neglected area in the management area. From a customers perspective the service quality of customers should determine whether to buy and whether to be there as a customer. An employee can have problems at any time; it is up to the management to help him out in solving the problem like providing him with the required training and supervision so that he gets through that difficult phase and learn things for his and companys benefit. He should be put through role plays and discussion techniques along with proper guidance from his seniors on how to improve on his customer service skill which is important (Goetsch and Davis 2014). He should be provided with in-house situational role plays where he can gain confidence before he goes in for the real deal. It may happen that he has a communication problem, so it is important to identify his problem and then work on it. Slide One Essays - Education, Distance Education, Euthenics

Slide One: Hello, and welcome to Liberty University's HIUS 221 Survey of U.S. History. This tutorial was meant to help you get started in the course and be successful along the way. Slide Two: Some quick reminders about this course before we begin. First of all, you will not be using a printed text for this course. Although one is available on MBS for a small fee, this does not include any video material that may be included in MindTap, and many of the map activities may be missing as well. You really have nothing to purchase for this class. Everything has already been charged to your student account through our course fee model. This course will also be different in some other ways, so please be flexible and open-minded as you move through it and be sure to listen to all instructions from your instructor. We need your feedback on this course. These courses are constantly a work in progress, and we really appreciate all the things we learn from our students as they move through the course. Slide Three: First of all, some of you might be asking, "What is MindTap?" MindTap for U.S. History is a new way to learn that allows you to build your knowledge in small increments so that you really commit things to long term memory. This is a product that is different than any other e-book or online learning resource that we've been able to find, and I hope will enjoy it. Slide Four: You may be asking yourself, "How is my course going to be different?" Well, first of all, as we've said, there's no textbook. But in this MindTap course, there are no chapters, there are no long reading assignments of hundreds of pages, and there are no massive quizzes at the end of the week on all the reading you've done in your MindTap course. There are quizzes on other assignments, but not on the main reading of the course. This is also a different Blackboard experience as I think you will see. This course is set up to help you learn and succeed as you move along. Slide Five: Now you might be asking yourself, "How is my course going to be different than any other Blackboard course I've taken at Liberty University?" Well, I think when you click through the course, you'll actually find out. First, go into Module 1, Week 1. Just take a look. There are no more reading and video folders, no more assignment folders, no more separate folders for anything. You'll actually find that everything you need is laid out in one succinct learning path that guides you from one assignment to the next without any real breaks or finding out where things are. Slide Six: "So, what do you mean? Show me how this course is different!" Well, let's take a look. We're going to click on Course Content and as that comes up, you'll actually find here are all your modules and weeks laid out just like any other course, but we'll go ahead and click into week 1 since that's what we just mentioned. And as you can see, everything you need for the week is actually laid out right here for you. The first thing you'll see every week is a study plan. I encourage you to download these, print them out, take a look at them because they will guide you step by step into exactly what you need to do, and how long those things might actually take as you go through the week. You'll find when you look at these that every week, you're actually scheduled to have Sunday off and Monday as a catch-up day, if you will. So you could actually finish all of your work on Tuesday through Saturday if you follow this plan. Now I understand, many people work, they have families, and they have other commitments, but this is an easy way for you to really schedule your time. Now let's look out through the rest of this. As you can see, you have every assignment you need to do in the order in which you need to do it. I really encourage you to stay on

Free sample - Poes Horror. translation missing

Poes Horror. Poe's HorrorINTRODUCTION Edgar Allan Poe (1809 - 1849) was a famous poet in America who wrote many stories and poems (Hossick 28). He was also an editor as well as a writer and he worked with several journals and publishing homes. He is most famous for his stories of mystery. It is believed that Edgar Allan made a generous contribution to the genre of scientific fiction through his stories and poems of mystery. The most outstanding stories by this poet are the black cat, the cask of Amontillado, William Wilson and the man of the crowd. These four stories are the area of interest in this paper and a comparison in the themes of the four stories will be made. DISCUSSION THE STORIES 1.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   BLACK CAT This story is narrated by Edgar himself and he explains that the story is inspired by his childhood passion for domestic animals. The story is about him and his favorite pet, a cat named as Pluto. Pluto and Edgar were good friends until Edgar changed abruptly, became violent and a drunkard. The situation worsened and Edgar killed the cat, an act that haunted him and prompted him to look for another cat to replace Pluto with. The new black cat does not bring peace to Edgar and the story ends with Edgar killing both the black cat and his wife. The narrator takes the audience through the story with lots of symbolism and imagery. The main theme of this story is the man’s fear of the unknown such as the fear of darkness, illusion and spaces. In the story, Edgar finds his house on fire after killing Pluto, and later he sees an image of a huge cat on the wall of his house. Perverseness is also a theme in this story where the quilt feeling by Edgar causes fear in his life (Barger and Poe, 59). There is also the theme of self destruction which is shown by the way Edgar brings trouble to himself through alcoholism and his violent actions. Another theme is the theme of vengeance (Lippmann 45). The black cat haunts Elgar in order to avenge its death and in the end of the story, the cat alerts draws the attention of the police to the acts of Elgar. The most outstanding elements in this story are the elements of horror and superstition. It is superstition that makes Edgar think that he has seen a cat on the wall of his burnt house, a symbol of Pluto hanging on the noose. Another important element in the story is the cat itself, which plays the roles of an actor, symbol, and a device to develop the plot. It doubles up as both a real creature and a ghost by dying and another cat reappearing in the story. This element of doubling is used in German folklore to signify bad luck or bad omen. The name Pluto is also symbolic as according to Roman mythology, the name symbolizes death or misfortunes. The story is also ambiguous, with the question of whether the reappearance of the cat was natural or superstitious being left unanswered. 2.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   CASK OF AMONTILLADO In this story the narrator, Montressor, is not happy as the others during the annual celebration of the beginning of Lentern season. The reason why he is not happy is because of the many offenses committed against him by Furtunato. Montressor is out to revenge and he looks for an opportunity to do so. He uses a new wine by the name of Amontillado as bait to catch Furtunato and he succeeds and kills him brutally. The themes in the story are revenge, deception and pride. Montressor is out to revenge against Fortunato for the many offences he has committed, the most recent one being an insult. Deception is another theme shown by the way the way Montressor uses Amontillado to lure Fortunato to the catacombs where he kills him. Pride is evidenced by the believe Fortunato has on his ability to know whether the wine presented to him is truly Amontillado. He believed in his ability even though he was not sober and he was also unwell (Barger and Poe 88). 3.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   WILLIAM WILSON The story is narrated by a person on the verge of death, and it first builds on flash back. He is disturbed and seeks to get the reader to sympathize with him by informing the reader that his bad deeds were out of unavoidable circumstances. One theme of the story is the enemy within, which means destroying oneself or working against ones interests through alcoholism, drug abuse and others. There is an inner spirit that develops within us and cause fear of some things, depression or lack of sleep. According to Barger and Poe, the narrator is facing such a situation and in his struggle to overcome it, he fights against himself and loses (620). The other theme is the theme of terror which is shown by the way the narrator struggles to fight against an imaginary enemy. 4.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   THE MAN OF THE CROWD This is the story of a man in the streets of London who has been suffering from an unknown illness. His sits outside and starts categorizing passers by where he notices one old man and follows him. The pursuit extends to the next day and the man is not able to understand the mission of the old man. The main theme in this story is the theme of mystery which is shown in the way the young man can not categorize the old man from the looks, as opposed to the other people in the streets. Even after following the old man for a long time, the man can not tell the motives of the old man and leaves the reader to find out for themselves (Barger and Poe 298). COMPARISON OF THE STORIES   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Through out the four stories, there are some themes that seem to recur, which are insanity as opposed to rationality, obsession, man and death, double identity, love or hatred, curiosity, resolve among others. About insanity and rationality, in the four stories there are people whose decisions are not driven by rationality but by an element of insanity. In the Black cat, the insanity was brought by influence from alcohol and Elgar is not in control of his decisions (Lippmann 68). Also, in the Cask of Amontillado, Fortunato is driven by drunkenness to accept the challenge to test the wine. The same case applies to the story William Wilson who is so disturbed that his decisions are not rational. In the man of the crowd, the man is driven by an unnamed sickness to sit idly in a coffee shop and categorize people. His move to follow an old man for so long is also an insane decision since he does not stand to benefit from discovering who the old man was.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Another common theme in the stories is obsession. The characters in the stories are obsessed with different things and this obsession is a source of misfortunes or death to the characters. In the Black cat, the narrator is obsessed with the cat, his favorite pet and alcohol while in the story of the cask of Amontillado; Fortunato is obsessed with alcohol (Lippmann 176). There is also the obsession with discovering the truth in the man of the crowd. In the story of William Wilson, the narrator is obsessed with fighting against self and wining.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Throughout the stories, double identity is used to develop the plot. In the black cat, the black cat doubles as a both a natural creature as well as a ghost by dying and reappearing. In the story of the cask of Amontillado, the wine doubles as something to cheer up Fortunato and also as something to kill him. In the story William Wilson, the narrator’s struggle against self results to both a win and a loss while in the story the man of the crowd, the young man doubles as the man we know as well as a mysterious man.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In the stories, Elgar has employed the use of symbolism, anaphora and first person narration in his work. In the story of the black cat, the cat is used to symbolize misfortune. In the cask of Amontillado, the name ‘Amontillado’ is also used to show bad luck. Anaphora is repeating a phrase or a word before the beginning of lines often to show emphasis and create balance. In the story of the black cat, he uses anaphora as shown in the line â€Å"...I blush, I burn, I shudder, while I pen†¦..†(Barger and Poe 62) and in the story of William Wilson, anaphora is shown in the line â€Å"†¦The same name! The same contour of person! The same of arrival...† (Barger and Poe 625).Irony is also used as shown in the story of the black cat. The cat which was initially a great friend to Edgar turned to be an enemy and cause of trouble to him. In the cask of Amontillado, when Montressor gives Fortunato wine, he toasts â€Å"to his long life† knowing very well that h would kill him. When they are ascending the stairs, he also tells him that his life is respected, which was not true since he was planning to kill him.  Ã‚   CONCLUSION Allan Edgar was a good writer who used various tools in his short stories to develop the story as well as to bring out the various themes. His favorite themes were mystery, obsession and revenge and these are common in most of his works (Hossick 67). He used the first person narration since it is more captivating and also convenient. His short stories are informative, thrilling as well as entertaining due to his literature skills.    WORKS CITED Barger, Andrew and Poe, Allen, E. Strategic Management of HR Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Strategic Management of HR - Essay Example This paper will present a short report on this company from theoretical perspectives on SHRM while focusing on external factors based on information available in the company’s website and other literature sources before identifying some key challenges and proposing recommendations to tackle those challenges along with concluding opinions. 2. The Walt Disney Company: As per their website, the Walt Disney Company and its subsidiaries group is a world leading international family entertainment and media enterprise with five business segments: media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment, consumer products and interactive media. Disney’s vision statement is ‘To make people happy’ (Plenert 2002; 77), and this they wish to accomplish through their mission, which states, ‘To be one of the world's leading producers and providers of entertainment and information. Using our portfolio of brands to differentiate our content, services and consumer produ cts, we seek to develop the most creative, innovative and profitable entertainment experiences and related products in the world,’ (Erling, 23). ... hile strategic management models strive to address company’s internal and external factors, the external factors stand out even before starting a business and also throughout the life cycle of the business. 3.1 Life cycle model: Considering the life cycle model, put forth by Sisson and Storey (2000 cited Marchington & Wilkinson, 2005), Disney can be categorized in the maturity phase after its rapid growth into locations worldwide during last decade; its standardized policies and procedures have been translated to suit the local needs and obligations. Although Disney continues to acquire and grow, its growth strategies seem to be in saturated markets, considering the evolution of advanced technology and systems, favourable economic conditions and regulations, which in turn are only sufficient to sustain its business. The recent acquisition of Lucasfilm and all of its franchisees, which has not only added greater value to Disney’s brand but also increased its share value in the US market (Cieply, 2012) also indicates that the company still continues to grow and expand while maintaining its standardized policies. The life-cycle perspective shows Disney fluctuating between growth and maturity phases. Resistance to change, adaptability of old strategies to new conditions and employee motivation and commitment are common issues that need to be addressed. 3.2 Harvard model: Gaining an understanding of the external factors is crucial for strategic decisions that can eventually spell the success, or performance of the organisation. The Harvard strategic management model, proposed by Beer and his associates (1984, cited Marchington & Wilkinson, 2005) identifies two critical factors that influence management, namely, situational and stakeholders’ interests, with the former

Miss Celie Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Miss Celie - Assignment Example Celie’s hardships forced her to learn others’ values and beliefs. Ms. Celie’s bank was filled with a poor self image. The banking concept did not work with Ms. Celie, especially because she was abused and taught by others around her. When Shug, Mr. Johnson’s lover, came into Ms. Celie’s life, she began to teach Ms. Celie differently. Shug respected Ms. Celie after being around her for awhile. The two became confidants and lovers. Shug taught Ms. Celie that she was worth something. This allowed Ms. Celie to blossom. She opened her own shop after leaving Mr. Johnson. Ms. Celie even contacted her sister and children after Shug showed her letters Mr. Johnson had kept from her. Ms. Celie came back after her stepfather’s death to inherit her rightful estate. None of these things would have been possible without Shug teaching her self confidence and esteem. Shug treated the pupil with respect and taught Ms. Celie in her own individual way. Paulo Frieire’s idea of respecting each individual student instead of using the banking model is admirable, but impractical. Not every one comes from a loving or nurturing home. Some like, Ms. Celie, have hard lives. Too many people, educators included, are like Mr. Johnson, Pa, and others who treated Ms. Celie cruelly. The banking concept is the best method to teach children now, but Frieires ideas cannot be applied effectively to all

The following is a list of the number of Playstation 3 titles offered for each ESRB game rating. EVERYONE – 481 Titles rated E (Everyone) have content that may be suitable for ages 6 and older. Titles in this category may contain minimal cartoon, fantasy or mild violence and/or infrequent use of mild language. EVERYONE 10+ 186 Titles rated E10+ (Everyone 10 and older) have content that may be suitable for ages 10 and older. Titles in this category may contain more cartoon, fantasy or mild violence, mild language and/or minimal suggestive themes. TEEN 529. Titles rated T (Teen) have content that may be suitable for ages 13 and older. Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, minimal blood, simulated gambling, and/or infrequent use of strong language. MATURE 373 Titles rated M (Mature) have content that may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older. Titles in this category may contain intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content and/or strong language. RATING PENDING 145 Titles listed as RP (Rating Pending) have been submitted to the ESRB and are awaiting final rating. (This symbol appears only in advertising prior to a games release.) Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches: The five most common Playstation 3 hardware malfunctions and glitches are as follows: * Yellow light of death (3 red light beeps) * Not reading games/blu-rays * No video * Stuck discs * No power Doing self-repair is very difficult on the Playstation 3 is highly discouraged. Most of these issues are not easy fixes and require the replacement of key components. Movie-Playing Features: The Playstation 3 is capable of playing the following types of multimedia discs (list includes Blu-Ray): * Playstation 1,2, and 3 Discs. * Blu-Ray Discs * DVDs * CDs * DVD-R * DVD+R * DVD-RW * DVD+RW * CD-R * CD-RW * Dual Discs RESULTS Comparing Costs The following table shows your three options with their prices and a ranking based on affordability. Table 1. 7: Comparing Costs Option| Cost| Ranking (1-Best Option)| Microsoft’s Xbox 360| $199. 99| 2| Nintendo’s Wii| $149. 99| 1| Sony’s Playstation 3| $299. 99| 3| BEST OPTION: All Because you have already identified that your spending limit is $700 for a gaming setup, none of these options go against your cost preference. Cost is not a preventative factor in purchasing a video gaming system based on this information. However, if you decide that you would like to readjust your spending limit given the substantial difference between your limit and the prices of the systems, the Wii is your best option. Comparing Hardware Specifications The table below lists the hardware specifications for each option, and also includes the online capabilities of each system and their respective networks. Table 1. 8: Comparing Hardware Specifications | Options| Hardware Specification| Xbox 360| Wii| Playstation 3|. * * Media Type| * * DVD| * * Flash Memory Card, * Nintendo Wii Disc, * Nintendo GameCube Disc| * * Blu-Ray| * * CPU| * * 3. 2 GHz PowerPC Tri-Core Xenon| * * 729 MHzIBM PowerPC â€Å"Broadway†| * * 3. 2 GHz IBM Cell Broadband Engine (8-core)| * * Internal Memory| * * 4 GB Flash| * * 512 MB| * * 160 GB HDD| * * RAM| * * 512 MB| * * 512 MB| * * 256 MB XDRAM| * * Online Services| * * Xbox Live| * * Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, WiiConnect24,| * * Playstation Network| * * Online Multi-Player Services| * * Yes| * * Yes| * * Yes| * * Connector Types| 1 x AV cable port,5 x USB 2. 0, 1 x Kinect port,1 x HDMI output1 x SPDIF output,1 x Ethernet| (4 pin USB Type A),4 x Game controller,Component video output,Composite video output,S-Video output,2 x USB| 2 x USB,1 x Ethernet,1 x HDMI output,1 x PlayStation 3 AV output,1 x SPDIF output| * Ranking| 1| 3| 2| BEST OPTION: Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Because your preference is to play online Role-Playing Games, the focus of the hardware specification criterion has to be online capabilities. When it comes to online game-play, Xbox 360 has the technical specifications to make it the best option. One of the most important specifications in a system is its processor speed. The Xbox 360 boasts a 3. 2 GHz PowerPC Tri-Core Xenon processor, which is the same speed as the Playstation 3, but far superior to the Wii. When it comes to intense online game play with potentially dozens of other players, it is important to have a processor that can keep up. To keep the whole system running smoothly and minimize lag time, it is also important to have a substantial amount of RAM. The Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 have 512 MB or RAM, while the Wii only has 256 MB. At this point, the Xbox and Playstation 3 are nearly equal in terms of specifications that lean toward online gaming. What really pushes the Xbox 360 in the lead is their network: Xbox Live. As of 2011, Xbox Live has over 30 million users worldwide. Most of the games that are played on the Xbox Live network are geared toward your gaming preference of Role-Playing and Adventure games. However, due to the massive size of the network and the sheer number of users, even a less popular category like Strategy is available for multi-player gaming. According to Michael McNeilly, an experienced Xbox 360 online gamer, â€Å"There is really nothing like the Xbox Live network out there. The network for PS3 is okay, but it isn’t nearly as big and has a lot of bugs that still haven’t been worked out. † Michael Mcneilly has played all of the other systems extensively, but due to his love for online gaming, he chose the Xbox 360. Ralph Jones, an avid Wii owner and player, explained to me that he really has no need to play online. He mostly enjoys the physical nature of the Wii’s gameplay, and doubts that the Wii is even capable of serious online gaming. According to Kyle Johnson, an avid gamer and owner of all three options, the Wii is not a competitive option in terms of online gaming. When asked about the Playstation 3 and its online gaming community, Kyle explained that there is a reason that the Playstation Network does not have a subscription fee. It is not adequate when compared to Xbox Live, and the number of users sometimes makes it hard to play the less popular games online. Clearly, the Xbox 360 offers the best of both worlds. It has a massive online gaming community and also boasts a powerful 3. 2 GHz processor. With processor speed and RAM that are equal to the Playstation 3 and far superior to the Wii, the Xbox Live community is what gives the Xbox 360 the top ranking and makes it the best option in terms of hardware specification. Comparing Games Offered Table 1. 9 lists a calculated average of the two figures previously provided in graphs 1. 1, 1. 2, and 1. 3. These figures were mean game-review scores of all games in three genres, and mean scores of the top-five best-selling games for the three genres. Table 1. 9: Comparing Games Offered pt. 1 | Options|. Genre| Xbox 360| Wii| Playstation 3| Role-Playing Games| 79. 4| 72. 7| 71. 75| Adventure Games| 76. 1| 76. 7| 77. 9| Platformer Games| 76. 2| 72. 2| 76. 2| Ranking| 1| 3| 2| Table 1. 10 shows how many games are available for each system in your most preferred genre: Role-Playing Games. Table 1. 10: Comparing Games Offered pt. 2 | Options| Genre| Xbox 360| Wii| Playstation 3| Role-Playing Games| 108| 33| 117| Ranking| 2| 3| 1| BEST OPTION: Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Based on the averages found for all five relevant genres, the Xbox 360 is the best option for the Games Offered criterion. Even though the Playstation 3 has a slightly higher total number of Role-Playing Games available for sale, it does not outweigh the fact that the Xbox 360 scored significantly higher on overall game-review scores. It is generally more important to have higher-rated games than a greater quantity of lower-rated games. For this reason, the Xbox 360 is the best choice for the Games Offered criterion. Comparing Target Demographic Table 1. 11 displays your three options and the total number of ratings received for each rating category out of all games available for each system. Table 1. 11: Comparing Target Demographic. | Options (Number of Ratings)| Rating| Microsoft’s Xbox 360| Nintendo’s Wii| Sony’ Playstation 3| Everyone| 303| 916| 481| Everyone 10+| 213| 355| 186| Teen | 535| 374| 529| Mature| 491| 57| 373| Rating Pending| 145| 61| 145| Ranking| 1| 3| 2| BEST OPTION: Microsoft’s Xbox 360 Based on all of the games available for each gaming system, the Xbox 360 has the most games with ratings in the Mature and Teen categories. Since you, Pascal, are an adult and prefer the types of games that are most commonly rated Teen and Mature, the Xbox 360 gets the top rank for the Target Demographic criterion. Sony’s Playstation 3 comes in second with a comparable number of games in the Teen and Mature rating categories, but they are not quite as high as the Xbox 360. Nintendo’s Wii has least number of ratings in each of those categories. The Wii has a staggeringly low number of games in the Mature category at 57, and roughly 150 less games in the Teen category than the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. This makes it clear that the Xbox 360 is geared toward an adult audience, and will likely have more games that suit the preferences of an adult. The Playstation 3 is a close second, but still offers significantly less games in the Mature category. The Wii seems to be geared toward a younger, less mature audience, and will likely have the least number of games that will fit your preferences. With all of this considered, it is clear that the Xbox 360 is the best option for the Target Demographic criterion. Comparing Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches Table 1. 11 shows all of the common hardware malfunctions and glitches for each option. This table also assigns a ranking (1 being the system with the overall least severe hardware problems relative to the other options). Table 1. 12: Comparing Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches | Options|. | Microsoft’s Xbox 360| Nintendo’s Wii| Sony’s Playstation 3| Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches| *Complete System Crash – â€Å"Red Ring of Death†*Basic Hardware Failure (eg. DVD tray and laser failure)| *Power Supply Issue*WiConnect24 Issue*Dual-Layer Wi Disc Failure| *Complete System Crash –â€Å"Yellow Lights of Death†| Ranking| 2| 1| 3| BEST OPTION: Nintendo’s Wii Based on this table and other research, I have identified Nintendo’s Wii as your best option for the Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches criterion. Even though the Wii does run into problems occasionally, they are rarely as severe as they are with the other options. All of the problems listed for the Wii are covered by warranty and are not worthy of complete system replacement. Alternatively, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 both commonly run into full system crashes, which render the system unusable. Kyle Johnson, an avid gamer and owner of all three options, has never run into a problem with his Wii, but has experienced full system crashes on both his Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. The only reason the Xbox 360 is ranked higher than the Playstation 3 is because self-repair on the Playstation 3 is strongly discouraged. Kyle Johnson and Michael McNeilly have both performed minor repairs on their Xbox 360’s, but have never dared to open up their Playstation 3’s. With all things considered, Nintendo’s Wii is the best option for the Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches criterion. Comparing Movie-Playing Features Table 1. 13 below shows all of the media discs played by each option, and whether or not that option satisfies your preference of having a built-in Blu-Ray player. Table 1. 13: Comparing Movie-Playing Features | Options| | Xbox 360| Wii| Playstation 3| Media Discs Played| * Xbox 360 Discs * Xbox 1 Discs * DVDs * CDs * DVD-R * DVD+R * DVD-RW * DVD+RW * CD-R * CD-RW * Dual Discs | * Wii Discs * GameCube Discs| * Playstation 1,2, and 3 Discs * Blu-Ray Discs * DVDs * CDs * DVD-R * DVD+R * DVD-RW * DVD+RW * CD-R * CD-RW * Dual Discs | Satisfies Preference? | No| No| Yes| Ranking| 2| 3| 1| BEST OPTION: Sony’s Playstation 3 Based on the media discs that each option offers, Sony’s Playstation 3 is the obvious choice for the top rank in the Movie-Playing Features criterion. The Playstation 3 is capable of playing both DVDs and Blu-Rays, while the Xbox. 360 is only capable of playing DVDs. The Nintendo Wii, however, cannot even play DVDs. Because you have identified that you prefer a video gaming system that has a built-in Blu-Ray player, the Playstation 3 is the best option for the Movie-Playing Features criterion. CONCLUSIONS Table 1. 14 lists the rankings of each of the six evaluative criteria used throughout this report. In order to come to an overall conclusion as to which option to select, I have assigned reversed point values to the previously determined rankings. If, for instance, an option received a ranking of 1, it would be valued a 3. A ranking of 2 receives a value of 2, and a ranking of 3 is valued a 1. The total number of points will be shown at the bottom of the table along with the final ranking. The video gaming system with the highest number of points will be ranked as 1 and will be your best option. Table 1. 14: Overall Ranking | Options| Evaluative Criteria| Xbox 360| Wii| Playstation 3| Cost| 1| 1| 1| Hardware Specification| 1| 3| 2| Games Offered| 1| 3| 2| Target Demographic| 1| 3| 2| Common Hardware Malfunctions and Glitches| 2| 1| 3| Movie-Playing Features| 2| 3| 1| Total Points| 16| 10| 13| Overall Ranking| 1| 3| 2| RECOMMENDATIONS. It has been determined that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 is the best option, and I would like to recommend to you several retailers where it is available for purchase. The price is universal when bought new, but may vary depending on bundling and other promotions. I have prepared a table showing three popular retailers, the nearest location, and the price of the Xbox 360 4GB system. Table 1. 15: Retail Locations and Price Retailers and Locations| Price| GameStop(425) 895-833116475 NE 74TH STRedmond, WA 98052| $199. 99| Target(425) 482-641013950 NE 178th PlWoodinville, WA 98072| $199. 99| Walmart(425) 741-94451400 164Th St SwLynnwood, WA 98087| $199. 99| Throughout my research I began to realize that the final outcome would depend heavily on how much any criterion was valued. Based on your personal preferences, the best choice is the Xbox 360. However, if you decided that you valued having a Blu-Ray player above everything else, then the Playstation 3 would be the best option. If you decided that the only way to play Role-Playing Games was to use a remote and a nun chuck, then the Wii would be the best choice. It all depends on the valuing of any particular criterion. If you are interested in doing further research, the bibliography lists all sources used. My personal interviewees may be available if you would like to ask them questions, and all of my other sources have a variety of useful and reliable information. Based on everything I have learned from this report and my personal experience with the system, I believe that the Xbox 360 is the best choice for a video gaming system. Happiness in the Fourth Epistle of Alexander Popes An Essay on Man

Alexander Pope's philosophical poem An Essay on Man, published in 1732-134, may even more precisely be classified, to use a German phrase, as Weltanschauungliche Dichtung (worldviewish poetry). That it is appropriate to understand An Essay on Man as world view in verse, as a work which depicts humanity's relationship to and understanding of a perplexing and amazing world, is indicated in the statement of the poem's "Design" in which the author avows that his goal was to examine "Man in the abstract, his Nature and his State." Indeed, Pope sought to fulfill his agenda by describing in each of the work's four "epistles" the nature and state of man with respect (1) to the universe, (2) to man himself as an individual, (3) to society, and finally, (4) in relation to happiness. Pope's poetic and powerful examination of these themes in which "attitudes generated by deism, eighteenth-century sociality, and Roman Catholicism come together" (Mack lxxiv-lxxv) establish this composition as one of the truly great literary statements of a particular world view perspective in the history of the West. Pope's concern with human teleology in An Essay on Man also distinguish it as a distinctive piece of world view literature. According to "The Design" of the poem, Pope asserted that in order to understand man or any creature, it was necessary "first to know what condition and relation it is placed in, and what is the proper end and purpose of its being." For Pope, drawing on a venerable ideal from antiquity onwards, the end and purpose of humanity was happiness.1 As he exclaims at the very beginning of the fourth epistle, The heritage of the supremacy of happiness is impressive. For example, Aristotle believed that happiness was man's stron... ...he bliss of all beings in the chain of being) "Sees, that no Being any bliss can know, But touches some above, and some below." EM 4. 343-50 (regarding bliss in God) "For him alone, hope leads from goal to goal And opens still, and opens on his soul; Till lengthened on to Faith, and unconfined, It pours the bliss that fills up all the mind. He sees, why Nature plants in Man alone Hope of known bliss, and Faith in bliss unknown: (Nature, whose dictates to no other kind Are given in vain, but what they seek they find) Wise is her present; she connects in this His greatest Virtue with his greatest Bliss." EM 4. 359-60 (regarding love and happiness) "Happier as kinder, in whate'er degree, And height of Bliss but height of Charity." EM 4. 397-98 (regarding bliss and virtue) "That Virtue only makes our bliss below; And all our Knowledge is, ourselves to know."

Report on Surajkund Essay

The Surajkund Crafts Mela is organized each year by the Tourism Department in Haryana in February. This is a very colorful and exotic handicrafts and handloom fair that is planned each year to popularize the traditional handicrafts in India made by the rural folks in Surajkund. This was first organized in the year 1981 and it continues to be a major platform for Indian artisans to showcase the skills in the art work and crafts. This is a weeklong fair, which is celebrated annually. Scores of skilled artisans from all over India come here to participate and promote their crafts. Some of the work that is displayed here is age old and has been passed down since ages. Surajkund mela provides its visitors the skilful and exquisite textiles, paintings, ivory work, wood stock, terracotta, pottery, lac work, grass work and stone work. The visitors can also shop here extensively for some of the world’s treasured wares. This fair is not just limited to artworks and exhibitions but also showcases a visual delight to the visitors in the form of performances from the special Natyashala folk dances and music filled evenings at an open air theatre present in the venue. A diverse range of delicious savories, which is prepared by exponents, is also offered to the visitors. The cuisine is generally rural, which is kept so to match the theme of the festival. Each year the Surajkund crafts festival has a theme, inspired by the artworks from a particular Indian state and the entire ambience of the fair is designed accordingly. Many states showcase their finest handlooms, delicious rural cuisines and handicrafts in this fair. Some of the most deligtful crafts collections of the Mela arrive from practically all over the country. In wood and cane come inlay work, rose wood carving, sandal wood from Punjab and South India. Chiki wood craft of Kashmir and some very fine cane craft come from West Bengal and North Eastern States. Delcate sholapith and shital patti work come from Assam and West Bengal. The phulkari of Punjab, the Banjara and Banni embroidery of Gujarat and Rajasthan, the Kantha traditions from West Bengal and Tripura, lace and crochet from Goa, the Suzni of Kashmir and Mirror encasing work along with the traditional chikan work of Lucknow delight. Oxidized jewellery, sea shell decorations and agate stone work delight as also do delicate gold work and chunky silver jewellery. Toys in wood and cane, ply and mud make the young thrill with joy. Some of the fine phad paintings of Rajasthan, the kalamkari of Andhra and Karnataka, temple paintings of Orissa, madhubani of Bihar, fascinate. In the metal section tribal dhora work, classical south Indian metal work, glittering brass ware, bell metal and iron craft delight collectors. In the field of woven textiles some of the finest silk work of Orissa, Patola, Bandhini of Gujarat and Rajasthan, Ikat, Kanjeevaram, Dharmavaram and temple silks of South India vie for attention with the most simple cottons of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and tribal textiles of North East India as also do the handloom of Haryana. The Various Crafts participated in the Mela every year. Themes for the fair in some of the fairs were Madhya Pradesh in 2009, Paschim Banga in 2008, Andhra Pradesh in 2001, Maharashtra in 2006 and the state of Chattisgarh in the year 2005. Surajkund is a major place located at a distance or 8 km of South Delhi in the city of Faridabad. This place is very easily accessible by road from Delhi. The Haryana Tourist Bureau arranges special tours from 36 Janpath Road in New Delhi. The nearest airport is located in Delhi. The site where this fair is organized is at a distance of 25 km from Palam Airport. Thus, visiting this fair atleast once is highly recommended as the rich culture and true colours and creativity of our country can be observed giving one of the most beautiful experiences.

A Brief Note On Atherosclerosis And Coronary Spasms

1. Ms. T sought medical attention mainly because of intolerable chest pain after climbing several flights of stairs; however, Ms. T has a history of conditions such as atherosclerosis and coronary spasms. Atherosclerosis is the buildup of fatty material known as plaque, along the walls of arteries causing the arteries to narrow (Taber’s pg 224). Therefore, angina pectoris can result with exertion. Also, coronary spasms can potentially be caused by plaque buildup and can occur in people who have high cholesterol such as Ms. T. Also, coronary spasms are known to cause angina pectoris in people (Taber’s pg 2171). Ms. T’s history of these conditions explains why she experiences episodes of angina. 4.
